READ THROUGH THE BIBLE IN 2008.  Under this plan you only have twenty-five days of reading each month.  BOOKLETS TO HELP YOU DO THIS CAN BE FOUND IN THE NARTHEX ON THE DESK.

SUNDAY SERVICESWith few exceptions, Sunday services are held each week at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. The Lord’s Supper is usually celebrated at alternating services, at the 11:00 service on the first and third Sundays of the month, at the 8:30 service on the second and fourth Sundays of the month and both services on the fifth Sunday of the month.  Communion will also be offered on ASH WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 6TH, at the service at 12:30 (individual cups only) and at the 7:00 p.m. service (individual cups only).  Those planning to attend communion should read our communion policy printed in the bulletin before doing so. 

WEDNESDAY SERVICES – WEDNESDAY LENTEN SERVICES BEGIN ON ASH WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 6TH.  “OBJECTS OF LENT” WILL BE OUR LENTEN THEME.  AT THE ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICES WE WILL HAVE ONE WOODEN CROSS TO GIVE TO EACH FAMILY UNITY (100 total)These can be placed in a prominent place in the home to help us reflect on our Lord’s sacrifice.  THEN, EACH FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY IN LENT, ANOTHER OBJECT WILL BE GIVEN TO PLACE AROUND THE CROSS.  Objects like dice, ropes, cloth, silver, etc. will be given out each week at the Wednesday Services both at 12:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.  FOR MAUNDY THURSDAY, MOTZO BREAD WILL BE GIVEN AND USED IN COMMUNION.  GOOD FRIDAY WILL FEATURE THORNS AS THE OBJECT.  JOIN US EACH WEEK AT 12:30 or 7 P.M.,as we reflect on these “OBJECTS OF LENT” and how they help us understand our Lord’s great sacrifice for our salvation.  Congregation members will assist pastor.  Each service will have a sermonette for the children too. 

SUNDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY Takes place between services, at about 10:00 a.m. in the Choir/meeting room on the second floor.  OUR NEW TOPIC OF STUDY BEGINNING JANUARY 20TH WILL BE 1ST CORINTHIANS.  It will be led by Ralph Jacobs and other class members. JOIN US—ALL ARE WELCOME! 

SUNDAY SCHOOLis offered between services, 9:45-10:45 a.m.  It is a great opportunity for the youth to learn more of the Bible and what it means to be a Christian.  Sincere thanks to all who volunteered so far to teach in this year’s program.  If you would be interested in helping in the Sunday School, please talk with Luann Stirek or Amy Staubus.  The commitment is for one month at a time.  You are also encouraged to check out the Sunday School news letter in this issue of The Chimes (canary sheet) and Opportunities for Service (reverse side of this sheet) for additional information about the Sunday School.

CONFIRMATION CLASSES – ARE IN SESSION.  THE CLASS IS FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADE STUDENTS.  It meets from 8 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays after the church service.  ON JANUARY 30TH THERE IS A MEETING OF THE 8TH GRADE PARENTS TO DISCUSS PLANS FOR CONFIRMATION.  There is no class scheduled following the Ash Wednesday Service on February 6th.

TEEN BIBLE STUDY – Meets weekly at 9:45 a.m. in the Teen Room (Basement stage).  Topics of discussion will vary.  Teen Bible Study is open to all teens and is led by the teens with adult supervision.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDYKay Matthews leads the study.  We are currently completing a study from Beth Moore that includes a video of a visit she made to the Holy Land, called, “Jesus—the One and Only”.  We will soon begin a new study, “GET OUT OF THAT PIT” by Beth Moore.  Kay Matthews leads the study on Thursdays at 1:15 p.m. WATCH FOR MORE DETAILS IN THE SUNDAY BULLETINS AND CHIMES.
