If you have any items that you would like listed, please bring them to the Council’s attention before the meeting by contacting our President, Christine Zogas, Pastor or the church office. 

The resignation of Pat Kubik from the Church Council was accepted with regret.  IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THE CHURCH’S CONSTITUTION, THE VACANCY WAS LISTED IN THE SUNDAY BULLETINS AND THE PREVIOUS ISSUE OF THE CHIMES.  THUS FAR NO ONE HAS VOLUNTEERED TO RUN FOR THIS UNEXPIRED TERM.  YOU MAY VOLUNTEER TO RUN FOR THIS POSITION BY CALLING CHRIS ZOGAS, REV. OR THE CHURCH OFFICE.  NOMINATIONS WILL ALSO BE ACCEPTED FROM THE FLOOR.  The person elected to this position will serve as the liaison to the Property Committee.  The election for this position will take place at the Summer Voters’ Assembly meeting on Sunday, June 29th, between services.

CONCORDIA’S MAP PROGRAM IS GOING WELL.  (M (member) A (appreciation/awareness) P (program)   IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN INVITED OR WERE UNABLE TO ATTEND ONE OF OUR MAP BREAKFASTS, PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE.  EVERYONE WHO HAS ATTENDED HAS NOTHING BUT FAVORABLE COMMENTS.  YOU SHOULD ATTEND.

VBS BEGINS JULY 14TH…NEEDED…RED KOOL AID AND HEALTHY SNACKS.  ANY DONATIONS OF SNACKS AND KOOL AID MAY BE PLACED IN THE KITCHEN.  THANK YOU.  SEE THE SPECIAL VBS INSERT WITH THIS MAILING.

ENROLLMENT FOR THE 2008-09 SCHOOL TERM IN OUR LITTLE LAMBS PRESCHOOL IS OPEN TO ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTEDAPPLICANTS WILL BE ACCEPTED ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS.  Children who are age three or four by September 1, 2008, are eligible to register.  Be aware that the morning four-year-old class generally fills up first.  FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE.  THEREFORE, DON’T DELAY REGISTERING YOUR CHILD OR IT MAY BE TOO LATE! 

CONCORDIA WILL BE CELEBRATING ITS 85TH ANNIVERSARY THROUGHOUT 2009, CULMINATING WITH A BANQUET ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2009The anniversary committee had its first meeting.  THERE IS A GREAT CELEBRATION BEING PLANNED.  It’s not too late to join the committee.  Talk with Christine Zogas or Pastor or call the office.

MANNA SUMMER SCHEDULE IS NOW IN EFFECT.  ORDER DATES DURING THE SUMMER ARE SUNDAYS, JULY 6, JULY 27, AUGUST 10 AND AUGUST 24.  As before, order forms are available on the bulletin board in the narthex.  Please make checks payable to ConcordiaLutheranChurch”, memo them Manna” and put them in the offering plate.  THE DEADLINE FOR PLACING ORDERS IS MONDAY MORNING AT 10:00 A.M., FOLLOWING THE SUNDAYS LISTED ABOVE.  Orders will be available for pickup as early as Thursday of the week the order is placed.  NOTE: We need a minimum of $500 of orders before we place our order with the company.  For more info, call the Office, 708-484-9784, or talk with Renae Korenchan. 

THE LADIES BIBLE STUDY GROUP IS ENGAGED IN A STUDY ENTITLED, “GET OUT OF THAT PIT” by Beth Moore.  Kay Matthews leads the study.  Check the calendars for date and time of meeting.  SEE KAY TO ORDER A BOOK.

WEDNESDAY SERVICES CONTINUE AT 7 P.M. EACH WEEK WITH THE DISCUSSION based on Max Lucado’s book, “FACING YOUR GIANTS”.  BE SURE TO JOIN US FOR THESE INTERESTING DISCUSSIONS.

L.W.M.L. NEWS

  • SINCERE THANKS TO ALL WHO BROUGHT ARTICLES FOR OUR INGATHERING FOR CONSTANCE MORRIS HOUSE OR GAVE A CHECK OR GIFT CARD.  THE ARTICLES WERE DELIVERED TO THEM.
  • AT OUR FINAL L.W.M.L. MEETING FOR THE 2007-08 YEAR WE ENJOYED EACH OTHER’S COMPANY OVER DINNER AT THE CZECH PLAZA.  L.W.M.L. MEMBERS BROUGHT SEVERAL BAGS OF HYGIENE ITEMS FOR GRACE LUTHERAN.  ENRIQUE, OUR VAN DRIVER, DELIVERED THEM.  THEY WERE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED AND MUCH APPRECIATED.  THANK YOU LADIES AND THANK YOU ENRIQUE!!!
  • WE DISBURSED FUNDS, $100 TO EACH OF THE FOLLOWING MISSIONS:  LUTHER BROOK, WORLD VISION AND CAMPUS CRUSADE (The Military Ministry) which provides a New Testament & Psalms and a Devotional called, “Our Daily Bread” in a Military Ministry Rapid Deployment Kit to our troops. 
  • WE ALSO FINALIZED PLANS FOR THE 2008-09 YEAR WHICH WILL INCLUDE SOMETHING NEW AND EXCITING, A MISSION SUNDAY, ON NOVEMBER 2ND.  MORE INFORMATION WILL BE AVAILABLE ABOUT MISSION SUNDAY AT A LATER DATE.  WATCH FOR IT!!!
  •  (We meet monthly usually on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m.)  Meetings consist of Bible Study, planning, an activity and “coffee and”.  Our ladies volunteer to lead the Bible study and serve “coffee and”.  It is not mandatory for anyone to do these jobs. All Bible study leader and coffee server positions have been filled for the 2008-09 year.

BILL AND BUNNY PEKOC have moved to Indiana to be near their daughter.  Their new address is:  1226 Portage Ave., South Bend, IN 46616.  They would appreciate hearing from members of Concordia.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO L.E.A.F. (Lutheran Education Assistance Fund).  Families have been encouraged by the fund to enroll their children in Lutheran Schools, where their Christian teaching is reinforced.  This year we have 12 applicants, including five in elementary schools, five at Walther High School, and two in colleges. 

Our CHURCH VAN, which has been equipped with a handicap accessible step and railing, is being used to pick up those interested in attending services.  If you are not a regular van passenger and would like a ride to church in the van, call the office, 484-9784, by Friday at 5:00 p.m. and let us know.  SINCERE THANKS TO GEORGE KOEHLER AND RICARDO ROS FOR VOLUNTEERING TO BE DRIVERS.  WE COULD ALWAYS USE AN ADDITIONAL DRIVER IN CASE ONE OF OUR DRIVERS IS UNABLE TO DRIVE FOR ANY REASON.  Drivers must be between age 25 and 69.  TO VOLUNTEER OR FOR MORE INFO, PLEASE CALL THE CHURCH OFFICE.

NATIONAL CITY BANK (formerly MidAmerica) has a program called “link up”.  It will help raise funds for Concordia at no cost to you and applies to current accounts as well as new accounts.  Simply go into a bank location and tell them you want to “Link up” your account to Concordia Lutheran Church.  Your account information remains private, nothing is deducted from your account and Concordia gets the benefit.  It “Couldn’t be easier!”  More information is in the narthex.  Sincere thanks to all who have participated.
